Kozhikode is expected to strengthen Kozhikode as the “city of literature” to strengthen the efforts of the Kozhikode Corporation Society to comply with its UNESCO as “city of literature”.
The report of the Commission, which was presented to the Chief Minister Pinaayi Vijayan on Sunday, March 30, is close to the UNESCO selection of Kozhikode as one of his creative cities and is awarded the “City of Literature” brand. Kozhikode is the only “city of UNESCO literature” in the country.
The Commission established by the State Government in December 2023 was entrusted with M. Satheesh Kumar – entrusted with the design of a comprehensive urban policy to manage Kerala’s development over the next 25 years. The panel recommended branding municipalities and cities throughout the state on the basis of their regional characteristics. According to the report, Thrissur and Kochi are to be marked as FINTET hubs; PALAKKAD AND CARAGOD as industrial intelligent cities; Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam as a knowledge corridor; Kannur as a fashion city; And Kannur-Kasaragod and Thrissur-enakulam stretch as educational and medical nodes. The Commission also recommended instructions for the development adapted to the specific needs of each city. “The purpose of the Commission for Urban Policy is to propose policy in accordance with the rapid urbanization of the state. Each city has a unique character, and therefore policy will differ for everyone,” said Mayor Kozhikode Beea Philip. “
To implement the Commission’s recommendations, Kozhikode Corporation plans to create a special committee. The panel of experienced persons will be set up for discussion and designing changes, said the mayor.
Mrs. Philip said the corporations expected support from the government in sharing responsibility for maintaining the brand “City of Literature” and funds.
