The Samyukta Horata Karnataka (SHK) on Wednesday suspected that there is a “real estate conspiracy” behind those who contributed to the filing of a PIL petition against one notification proposing to acquire 518 acres of land for the proposed Bidadi Township project to weaken the farmers’ agitation.

Speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru, an SHK spokesperson claimed that the petition, which was recently dismissed by the Karnataka High Court, was not only an “objectionable” petition, but a deliberate attempt by “vested interests” to prevent the anti-farmer land acquisition movement from fighting a real legal battle.

“Following the rejection of the motion, a coordinated ‘disinformation campaign’ by ‘vested interests’ in the real estate sector was launched, portraying the Court’s order as a ‘green light’ for the township project,” although the Court made it clear in its order that “this order should not be construed as expressing an opinion on any other issues that may arise in connection with said SHK.”

Meanwhile, the SHK has announced that it will organize a public hearing at Bairamangala Circle on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. where farmers are staging an open-ended protest against land acquisition. The hearing will be presided over by Justice V Gopala Gowda and will seek to hear farmers’ grievances, probe the alleged misinformation campaign surrounding the township project and discuss political developments surrounding the agitation.
