The controversy unfolded after a controversial boundary decision involving Krunal Pandya. Krunal attempted a big shot off AM Ghazanfar and sent the ball to wide long-on where Naman Dhir caught it near the ropes and threw it to Tilak Varma as he crossed the boundary line.
Tilak failed to complete the relay catch and appeared to show a six, seemingly believing that Naman had made contact with the boundary pads. Television footage later confirmed that Dhir stayed clear of the ropes throughout the effort.
Flower was seen having an animated chat with the fourth umpire immediately after the incident and was found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This refers to the use of audible obscenities during a match.
“Andy Flower, Head Coach, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 15% of his relevant match fee for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. Andy was found to have breached Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘use of audible obscenity during a match.’ The incident occurred at 17.2 when Andy spoke aggressively to the fourth umpire. Andy admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma,” the IPL statement read.
