Ravindra Jadeja secretly takes a dig at Ajit Agarkar after BCCI confirms selector’s exit

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a rare appearance at the X, hours after the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) confirmed that Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector was over.

Jadeja reached out to X to comment on the selector vacancy posted by the BCCI and asked what the process is for applying for the post. The Indian all-rounder is not known to be active on the social media platform. In fact, his last tweet reply was on February 19 when he got engaged to former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in a tweet related to Nepalese cricket.

WERE JADEJA AND AGARKAR ON A RIP?

Ravindra Jadeja and Ajit Agarkar were never openly at odds with each other. However, Agarkar played an instrumental role in shifting the Indian T20I team from senior to junior players. Agarkar felt that after the horrendous loss in the T20 World Cup in Australia 2022, the Indian team needs to focus on youth and put in motion a plan where the team will play with a different identity from the previous one.

His plan was temporarily put on hold when Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja returned to India’s squad just before the 2024 FIFA World Cup T20, a tournament which India won. However, the trio left the format on the day India won the World Cup, ushering in the overhaul Agarkar had been craving for months.

The Indian all-rounder was dropped from the ODI squad against Sri Lanka in 2024 and Australia in 2025 during Agarkar’s tenure. However, the former chief selector has always maintained that Jadeja is an integral part of the ODI setup.

The frustrated all-rounder broke his silence when called upon to make the selection, saying he was not surprised by the decision.

“(The selection) is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure,” Jadeja said during the West Indies Test series before the tour of Australia.

“(At the end of the day) the team management, the selectors, the coach and the captain have their thoughts and will have their reasons for not picking me for this series. They spoke to me, it wasn’t a surprise to me after the squad was announced,” he added.

While there is no evidence of a rift between former and current cricketers in India, one can judge from Jadeja’s post that it was not smooth sailing either.
