The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final is poised to be a thrilling encounter as India and New Zealand gear up to face each other at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9. Both teams have put on exceptional performances throughout the tournament, making this clash one of the most anticipated cricketing events of the year.
India, led by Rohit Sharma, have been unstoppable, remaining undefeated in the competition. Meanwhile, New Zealand, captained by Mitchell Santner, have shown incredible grit and determination, particularly in their convincing semi-final victory over South Africa. The stage is set for a high-stakes battle as both teams aim to claim the coveted title.
High Expectations from Both Teams
India enter the final as the favourites, thanks to their dominant run in the tournament. Their batting lineup, featuring stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, has been in exceptional form. Complementing them are the bowlers, including Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakravarthy, who have delivered crucial performances.
New Zealand, however, have proven to be a resilient force. Led by the ever-reliable Kane Williamson, their batting has been solid, while the spin duo of Santner and William O’Rourke has been instrumental in their success. The Black Caps are well-equipped to challenge India’s formidable lineup.
Ravichandran Ashwin Names India’s Game-Changer for the Final
Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his insights on the upcoming final, identifying Shreyas Iyer as India’s potential game-changer. Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘Ash Ki Baat,’ Ashwin highlighted Iyer’s consistent form and his knack for delivering in crucial moments. He pointed out that Iyer has been in stellar touch since the 2023 ODI World Cup and has a strong track record against New Zealand.
“For me, the game-changer will be Shreyas Iyer,” Ashwin stated. “He has been in excellent form since the 2023 World Cup. He has performed well against New Zealand and at venues like the Wankhede in Mumbai. In this tournament, he has looked absolutely brilliant,” he added.
Ashwin also commended Iyer’s dedication to improving his game, particularly his handling of short-pitched deliveries, which has traditionally been a challenge for him.
“He has worked hard on his short-ball game. While he got out in the last match, that shouldn’t overshadow his recent performances. Iyer’s greatest strength is his desire to improve areas where he has struggled,” Ashwin further explained.
