Former India head coach Ravi Shastri supported Washington Sundar to assert himself as a long -term versatile option for India in a test cricket. Shastri, when he spoke of the ICC review after the third Lord’s test, praised Sundar’s versatile abilities and expressed a strong belief in his potential to flourish in the longest format.
“I’ve always loved Washington. When I saw him the first day, I said he was a man. And he could be real for many years for India,” Shastri said, thinking about his early impression of Sundar.
Sundar made his debut in Gabba in 2021 during the Indian injury affected by Australia and contributed a compound 62 in a pressure situation. This knocking proved to be essential in the famous Indian victory of series. He watched it with an undefeated score of 85 and 96 against England at home, showing technical knowledge and peace far after his years. Despite predominantly batting on No. 7 or lower in 10 of its 11 test performances, Sundar boasts an impressive pavement diameter of 38.92, including four half -life.
Yet there were little opportunities in cricket with a red ball and far for a versatile-some who believe Shastri must change.
“He is only 25 years old. I think he should have played much more test cricket,” Shastri said.
“In India, it can be mortal on playgrounds where the ball turns, as New Zealand found out when they played against India,” he added, referring to the New Zealand tour of India 2024, where Sundar ended up as a common lead with 16 goals in four shifts.
“He got off on some of the higher skews.
Recent performances of Sundara in the ongoing test series in England were modest but valuable. He scored 42, 12*, 23 and 0 with the bat and picked up five goals – confirmed his ability to contribute in both departments.
When India often seeks a balance in their XI test, Shastri’s ringtone serves as a timely reminder of Sundar’s abilities. Still only 25, remains a promising prospect-one with instruments and temperament, which serves India as a true versatile forbidding for the coming years.
