The government re -appointed Ravi Agrawal as chairman of the Central Direct Tax Council (CBDT) for the next year from 1 July, the official order said on Saturday.
The decision was made by the Cabinet appointment (ACC), according to the Ministry of Personnel and Training. The appointment is on the basis of a contract from 1 July to 30 June 2026 or to other orders, depending on what is previously, states a statement.
ACC also cleared the appointment of batch Indian police services from 1989 Parag Jain per secretary, research and wing analysis (R & AW) under the Secretariat of the Cabinet for two years, showed a separate order.
Ravi Agarwal led the tax authority’s efforts to transform the tax administration on trust that relies on voluntary compliance.
In the Budget of the Union for 2025-26, the government announced the relief of the income of persons with medium income, which is estimated at value £1 trillion in terms of income.
This step could stimulate consumption, increase the economy and also increase income from income.
Agarwal is also closely involved in the preparation of the new income Tax Act to replace the existing law. The government believes that tax reform is the key to the realization of the country’s developmental objectives.
The new income tax law is expected to be clear and direct in the text and from the point of view of chapters and words, almost half of the current law. The parliament panel is currently looking at it. It is expected that the new bill will be simple for taxpayers and tax administration, which will lead to tax certainty and reducing the court dispute.
Under Agarwal’s Watch in 2024, CBDT also introduced the Vivad with Vishwas to resolve the disputes of the income tax, which will be reached.
This regime received a great response, with nearly 33,000 taxpayers to use this system to resolve their disputes, and the Minister of Finance Nirmal Sitharaman announced in its budget speech in February.
