Rattihalli is tensed when a person is beaten to death after an argument over change
A shopkeeper’s father was beaten to death by four men after a dispute over giving change while buying eggs between the shopkeeper and a customer escalated into an argument at Rattihalli in Haveri district on Wednesday evening.
The incident led to tension in Rattihalli, which led to the police deploying additional force as a precautionary measure.
Eastern Range Inspector General of Police BR Ravikanthe Gowda and Superintendent of Police Yashodha Vantagodi visited the city on Thursday to take stock of the situation.
The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Shivajirao Bairoji, a resident of Rattihalli.
Four men, Waseem Mulla, Sarfaraz Mulla, Sadiq Mulla and Shiraj Mulla, all siblings, are accused of beating him to death after a dispute over the return of change for buying eggs.
According to the FIR filed by the Rattihalli police, the main accused Waseem Mulla had earlier had an argument with Shivajirao Bairoji and his son Bharath Bairoji, who runs a petty shop in Rattihalli.
On Wednesday evening, Waseem Mulla bought five eggs from Bharath. The dispute arose after Waseem sought change for ₹500, while Bharath claimed that he (Waseem) had only given ₹100.
This led to an argument during which Waseem assaulted Bharath. When his father Shivajirao tried to intervene and solve the problem, he was also attacked.
Waseem was later joined by his siblings who also beat up Shivajirao and Bharath. Grievously injured, Shivajirao was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Rattihalli police have registered a case. They are looking for the accused who are on the run.
