Govindachamy, convicted in the case of rape and murder in 2011, a 23 -year -old woman who escaped from Kannur Central Jail in Kerala, was captured around 10.30 on Friday (July 25, 2025). He hidden inside well behind the Office for a National Sample in Tallap in Kannura.
The breakthrough came after the tip of the local inhabitant Vinoj, who informed the police that he had seen men in black trousers and a shirt near the DCC office in Talap. The CCTV visuals also confirmed that the man was Govindachamy.

The dog group also led the police to the same place where he was suspected of being seen for the last time. A large number of police staff soon carried out an intensive search in this area.
When sought after, M. Unnikrishnan, the National Sample Samples Department, which checked the office space for the first time, he saw Govindachamy hiding inside the well in the folder.
“After the news came out earlier that Govindachamy had escaped from prison and was last seen near the DCC office in Tallap, I checked the folder and also in the well.
“When he saw me, he threatened my terrible consequences,” said Mr. Unnikrishnan, adding that he immediately warned the police.
Police caught him and took him to the city police station in Kannura.
Previously, in the shocking forfeiture of prison security, Govindachamy escaped from prison in the early hours of the day, leading to a national fall.
The prison escape was reportedly about 1.15 hours of prison by the authorities discovered its absence only during the routine check later in the morning. Originally sentenced to death, Govindachamy’s punishment was later imported by the Supreme Court, which confirmed his life period for rape, but reduced the accusation of murder to seven years. His continuing imprisonment was caused by a life sentence.
Although he was to escape only one arm in unclear circumstances, he managed to escape from a high safety device. Clothing was found in prison and tied over the wall. The escape from prison soon caused a rush of activities between prison officials and the state police, who then started an intensive search operation.
After escaping from the Top Police prison, she confirmed that all checkpoints were alerted and the supervision increased in the transport nodes and border areas.
The authorities also examine possible lunges in prison security infrastructure.
The incident triggered political and public criticism with the requirements for investigating how such a high -ranking convicted person managed to escape from the undetected.
