Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Friday said the transport minister is “deliberately weakening” the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to “benefit” private bus operators.
Inaugurating the district conference of the Kannur Transport Workers Union, INTUC, at the Kannur DCC auditorium, Mr. Chennithala said the minister’s approach was tantamount to “abandoning KSRTC to a slow death” by failing to procure new buses and hold necessary appointments.
He accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of breaking up the public sector enterprise while depriving employees of their rightful benefits.
Mr. Chennithala alleged that KSRTC employees were “duped” by the government’s refusal to give even 1% dearness allowance.
He said that the policies of the LDF government have seriously affected the welfare and morale of KSRTC workers.
