Ramanthapur Lake will be developed by HYDRAA

Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency Commissioner AVRanganath on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the development of Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu, in the second phase of the lake development.

In the first phase, HYDRAA has taken up six lakes for development, of which three – Bathukammakunta in Amberpet, Bam Rukn-ud-Dowlah in Shivarampally and Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally have been completed and commissioned. The other three, Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur and Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal, are awaiting launch after development.

In the second phase, 14 lakes were planned to be constructed at a cost of ₹303 million. These include Thoutonikunta in Khajaguda, Bhageerathamma Lake in Puppalguda, Erla Cheruvu in Madinaguda, Errakunta in Bachupally, Kapra Pedda Cheruvu in Kapra, Nallagandla Cheruvu in Nallagandla, Pedda Cheruvu in Gangaram, Kamunipkat Cheruvu in Moosahi Cheruvu in Ibrahimbagh, Pedda Cheruvu in Nacharam, Krishnakanth Park Lake in Yousufguda and Turka Cheruvu in Nizampet, except Ramanthapur Lake.

The original area of ​​Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu is 30 acres, of which 16 acres were under encroachment. Permanent structures went up on 12 acres, while temporary structures like sheds and tin-roofed shacks went up on four acres.

HYDRAA said in a statement that permanent structures would not be affected. Temporary structures occupied by daily wage laborers have been removed and 18 acres of the full reservoir level of the lake has been included in the development project, it said.
