Rajya Sabha, on Monday (August 4, 2025), was adjourned for the day as a sign of respect after the death of his seated member and former main Minister Jharkhand Shibu Soren.

Vice -President Harivankh announced Soren’s death in the upper house immediately after convening the day and the members watched a minute of silence to mark his death. The house will now reappear on August 5, 2025.
Harivank described Sorena as a local level leader who worked to strengthen the position of tribal communities, poor and oppressed.

“After his death, the country lost an experienced deputy, a strong advocate of ordinary rights and an extremely honored public representative,” he said.
He was born on January 11, 1944 in the village of Nemra (today’s Ramgarh, Jharkhand) and came from the Santhal tribal community. He founded Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and from 2005 to 2010 he served as the main Minister of Jharkhand three times.

“Soren was a member of Lok Sabha five times in 2004–05 and 2006 and served as a coal minister under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” Harivank said.
In June 2020 he was elected to Rajya Sabha and served until his death.
