A Sidlaghatta local court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Congress leader BV Rajeev Gowda and sent him to judicial custody in connection with a case involving threats allegedly made to Sidlaghatta Municipal Commissioner Amruth Gowda.
The court took a serious view of the allegations and noted that the offense was serious in nature. After hearing the arguments, the judge rejected the bail application and ordered judicial custody.
Police requested a five-day custodial interrogation, citing the need for further investigation. However, the court rejected the request and instead sent the accused to judicial custody.
Rajeev Gowda was produced before the Sidlaghatta court after he was arrested at the Kerala border on Monday. He had been on the run since January 14.
Meanwhile, the court granted bail to Michael Joseph, who was named as the second accused in the case.
Joseph, who was arrested for harboring Rajeev Gowda in a farm in Mangaluru, was produced before the court after which the judge granted his bail plea after hearing arguments from both sides.
