
Just ahead of Republic Day 2026, the Nagaur police conducted a major security operation under the Explosives Act, seizing a large cache of explosive material and arresting one accused, officials said on Sunday.
The operation, described by authorities as one of the biggest of its kind in Rajasthan, was carried out based on persistent intelligence inputs that indicated illegal procurement, storage and movement of explosives in the district.
Intelligence inputs trigger a major police operation
Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa said the district police acted on specific leads and arrested the accused, identified as Suleman Khan.
At a press conference on Sunday, Kachhawa said:
“The Nagaur police had been receiving intelligence reports for quite some time which indicated that a large quantity of explosives was being bought, sold and stored in the district… Yesterday, the district police conducted a major operation… One person, Suleman Khan, accused in this case was arrested in the operation. A case was registered under sections of the Explosives and Organized Crime Act. This is possibly the biggest explosives operation. It involves a large quantity of explosives under this Explosives Act. State.”
Massive capture of ammonium nitrate and detonators
Police said a total of 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was recovered during the operation, along with a significant amount of detonators, detonating wire and other materials typically used for mining-related blasts.
According to investigators, the seized stock was illegally stored in a farmhouse belonging to the accused in Harsore village.
“A total of 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was seized. A large quantity of detonators, detonating wire and other material commonly used for blasting related to mining were also seized. The accused Suleman Khan is a resident of Harsore. He was storing supplies at his farm. The accused already has three cases of charges, one of which has three cases registered against him. is,”
The accused has a previous criminal record
Police confirmed that Suleman Khan has a criminal history, with three previous cases registered against him, all related to alleged violations of the Explosives Act. One of those cases resulted in an acquittal, while others remain on file
The investigation continues ahead of Republic Day
Authorities said further investigations are underway to determine the source of the explosives, possible supply networks and whether the materials were intended for illicit use. In connection with the Republic Day celebrations, security measures were increased throughout the district.
Police have not ruled out more arrests as the investigation continues.
