Wife Anjali told police that her husband was hit from behind by a passing motorcycle, resulting in his death. She further claimed that the rider robbed her of her jewelry before fleeing. Anjali claimed that her attacker knocked her unconscious, according to a HT report.
But what Anjali didn’t realize is that an autopsy could almost certainly reveal the cause of death, and once the news came, her facade collapsed like a house of cards.
The report revealed that there were no injuries on Ashish’s body that could be considered consistent with those she had sustained as a result of the road accident. Instead, his body bore multiple signs of assault, including a head wound, as well as signs of strangulation.
“There were clear indications of a brutal attack, not a vehicle collision,” HT quoted Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan as saying.
After finding discrepancies in the post-mortem report and Anjali’s statements, the police started interrogating her again and she finally confessed on Wednesday.
Anjali’s story and how Ashish was murdered
According to the police who interrogated Anjali, she was in a relationship with a person named Sanjay for seven years. However, in October 2025, she was reportedly forced to marry Ashish.
16 days before Ashish’s murder, Anjali and Sanjay started planning the crime, police said, adding that she deliberately took Ashish to an isolated area.

Before leaving the house with Ashish on the pretext of an evening walk, Anjali alerted Sanjay that two accomplices namely Rohit and Siddharth were waiting. The group also surveyed the site, the publication said.
Once they reached the deserted area, Sanjay and his accomplices attacked Ashish with sticks and iron rods and beat him until he collapsed. Once Ashish fell unconscious, Sanjay choked him to death.
According to the autopsy, the cause of death was blunt force trauma as well as suffocation.
To make the crime look like a case of robbery, Anjali then proceeds to hand over her jewelery and mobile phone to her lover Sanjay, after which he runs away. Anjali then raised her hue and cry and narrated her fabricated story to the locals as well as her in-laws.
Police also revealed that Anjali had asked Ashish to allow her to pursue higher studies at her former college in Ravla, which investigators said was to find a way to continue her relationship with Sanjay. However, Ashish refused. Police believe this is what led to his murder.
