
A booth level officer (BLO), aged 42, involved in special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, collapsed and died at his residence in Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, police said on Sunday.
Anuj Garg, who was posted as BLO in Gaushala sector of Dholpur city, collapsed late on Saturday night shortly after asking for a cup of tea, according to family members. He was reportedly in the process of uploading voter details when the incident took place at his house in Pratap Vihar Colony.
His family alleged that Mr. Garg was working under extreme pressure and was experiencing a heavy workload that forced him to stay up every night.
His sister Vandana Garg said the family rushed him to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“He was still uploading voter forms that night. He asked for tea, but before he could drink it, he collapsed,” she said.
On Sunday morning, police from Nihalganj station and District Medical Officer Dr Samerveer Singh visited Mr Garg’s residence to record the statement. A full autopsy was to be performed later that day.
Mr. Garg held a teaching position in Government High School, Bára, joined the service in 2012.
UP news: 28 BLOs accused of negligence in revision of voter list
District authorities have initiated action against 28 booth level officers (BLOs) in Bairia tehsil for alleged negligence during special intensive revision of electoral rolls, the news agency said. PTI on Sunday.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Assistant Electoral Officer Alok Pratap Singh said PTI that a review of SIR work was conducted on Saturday during which it was found that 28 BLOs had completed less than 25 percent of the allotted review work.
Singh said such low completion numbers reflected “serious laxity” on the part of officials. He added that a complaint has been filed at the Bairia police station to register an FIR against all 28 BLOs.
Bairia circle officer Mohammad Faheem Qureshi said on Sunday evening that they are taking necessary legal action in this matter.
