‘Raja Is Back’ – Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed by his wife during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was “reborn”, his family believes, when his elder brother welcomed a baby boy this Sunday.
Raja was murdered on Gyaras, the eleventh day of the lunar fortnight, the Hindustan Times quoted his family as saying. They added that nine months later, on the same day and almost at the same time, his elder brother Sachin Raghuvanshi welcomed a son.
Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi reportedly said the timing was not a coincidence but a divine sign: “God has sent Raja back to us.”
The baby was born on Sunday and brought home on Monday evening.
According to HT, the family celebrated the occasion by decorating their home and putting up a sign reading “Raja is back” at the main gate. The mother and child were later welcomed in a decorated car.
Who was Raja Raghuvanshi?
Raja Raghuvanshi was a businessman from Indore who was murdered in Meghalaya’s Sohra last year. Raja, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was murdered in a remote area near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya in May last year.
His decomposed body was pulled out of a deep ravine on June 2 after a thorough search.
The prime accused and Raj’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi is in judicial custody and the court recently rejected her bail plea, an officer told PTI in February this year.
Police said Raja and Sonam, then a newly married couple, had traveled to Meghalaya on a “honeymoon-cum-holiday trip”. Sonam was charged with planning and committing the murder before fleeing the state.
Police sources said the motive for the murder was linked to a love triangle and disputes over financial matters.
Four attempts to kill Raja?
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem told a press conference that the first attempt to kill Raja Raghuvanshi was made in Guwahati, followed by two failed attempts in Meghalaya’s Sohra (also known as Cherrapunji). The killers finally succeeded at Weisawdong Falls.
“They wanted to get rid of him at various places earlier. They also wanted to get rid of Raj’s body somewhere in Guwahati, but it didn’t happen,” explained Syiem.
The conspirators planned to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi at various places, including Nongriat and between Mawlakhiat and Weisawdong, but these plans failed to materialize until the fatal attack on Weisawdong.
