The Thrissur district faced widespread destruction on Tuesday evening because the torrential rain and the strong wind caused confusion, with the cost of damage estimated at 1.66 crore (1,66,77,000 GBP).
The worst area was Pullazhi, where the district collector Arjun Pandian visited houses and roads seriously affected by fallen trees and cracked poles of electricity. The key section – Olari Kottil Road – was seriously damaged, with uprooted trees and broken branches by bringing storm power lines and completely destroying the roofs of several houses.
Thrissur Taluk was the worst, while specific locations such as Ollur, Ayyanthole, Marathakkara, Aranattukar and Ollkar also showed significant damage.
In Thrissur Taluk, one house was fully destroyed and 47 other partially damaged, which represents a loss of £ 23. Meanwhile, the loss of crops across the blocks of Ollkar, Anthikkad and Velangallur affected 126 farmers that smoked 5.97 hectares of agricultural land and led to damage worth 17.86 lakh.
Circles of State Electricity Board (KSEB) in Thrissur and Irinjalacuda also carried the onslaught of storms and suffered damage to infrastructure estimated at 1.13 crore.
District officials, including Thrissur Taluk Tahsildar T. Jayasree and village officer Sheeja Raj, joined the district collector during the inspection and carefully assessed the scope of destructive and planning measures.
