Rain pelts Srikakulam on the second day

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin issued on Wednesday that Eluru and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts will continue to be under red alert, while orange alert has been sounded for Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts.

The respective district administrations of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts on Thursday announced closure of all educational institutions due to heavy rain warning.

Meanwhile, heavy rain lashed Srikakulam district for the second day on Wednesday, with Vajrapukotturu district receiving the highest rainfall at 88.25 mm, according to the State Directorate of Economics and Statistics.

The rainfall was caused by the influence of a deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday morning.

Other stations that recorded light rainfall till 6 pm on Wednesday include 73.75 mm of rainfall recorded at Laxminarasampeta in Srikakulam district, Putrela, Reddigudem and A.

Konduru in NTR districts recorded 67.68 mm, 64.18 mm and 62.84 mm respectively, while Edulagudem in Eluru and Pedayerukapadu in Krishna districts recorded 57 mm and 53.75 mm of rainfall respectively.

Advice for anglers

Fishermen have been advised not to venture along the Andhra Pradesh coast and beyond till September 25 as gale-force winds of 55 to 65 kmph with gusts of up to 75 kmph are likely to prevail along the coast on September 23 and 24.

Palas in Srikakulam district received 140 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am on Monday and corresponding time on Tuesday. Sompeta, Kalingapatnam and Tekkali in the same district followed with 130 mm, 120 mm and 110 mm respectively.

Pathapatnam in Srikakulam district, Denkada in Vizianagaram district and Vizianagaram city recorded 90 mm.
