Rain in Maharashtra: Landslide on Mumbai-Goa Expressway halted traffic for 12 hours

A landslide on the Mumbai-Goa Expressway near Chiplun halted vehicular movement on both sides for over 12 hours, with the administration’s clearance work proceeding slowly due to rain.
Vehicular movement on the Mumbai-Goa Expressway has been affected by a landslide in the Khavati area near Chiplun. Debris blocked the road and vehicles were immobilized on that stretch for 10 to 12 hours. Travelers reported that food, water and fuel were not available at their locations. Administrative teams began clearing the debris in the morning, but rain slowed the pace of work. Authorities have issued a warning to drivers traveling from Mumbai to Goa, asking them to remain cautious.

A landslide also occurred on the Mumbai-Pune highway near the Parashuram Ghat area. Soil and rocks began to slide down the hill near the Omega Hotel. The movement of vehicles on this route has been stopped.
In Raigad district, the Khopoli-Pen highway was closed for traffic between Sarsan and Isamba Phata due to water logging. The ‘Missing Link’ project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway suffered damage and a slab collapsed. A video of water and mud seeping into the damaged section is being shared on social media.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Raigad area. The Savitri River in Mahad has reached the warning level and water has reached the areas along the river bank. Market areas in the city and surrounding settlements were affected. The administration is monitoring the situation.
