Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday (September 26, 2026) directed officials to assess the damage caused by the rain within 24 hours and provide all possible assistance to the affected families.

“In view of changing weather conditions, heavy rains and thunderstorm and lightning warnings in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the District Magistrates of all affected districts to maintain extra vigilance and visit the fields. The Chief Minister has ordered that schools in the districts remain closed under red alert to face the possibility of flash floods.

Senior officials have also been directed to maintain full vigilance and immediately assess the damage caused by lightning and excessive rainfall and provide all possible assistance to the affected families within 24 hours,” an official statement by the state government said.

Mr. Adityanath added that the state government stands by the people of the state with full commitment in every situation. “Furthermore, officials have been directed to take effective measures as per local conditions for public safety and maintain special monitoring in sensitive areas,” the Uttar Pradesh CM added.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure the safety of people living in dilapidated houses and shacks. He said these people should be moved to the nearest emergency shelter as needed so that their lives are not threatened in the event of heavy rains or flash floods.

Commissioner for Aid Dr. Earlier, Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod held a video conference with district magistrates under red and orange alert and reviewed the weather situation and preparations. He directed the officials to remain active in the field, continuously monitor the local conditions and ensure immediate action in case of any emergency.

In view of the possibility of flash floods in some areas of the Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Balrampur, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Aynda, Syodvasthya, Gonda, Sant Kabir Nagar, Go Bahraich, Hardoi, Lucknow, Unnao, Raebareli, Barabanki, Amethi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Banda, Kaushambi and Chitrakoot have been instructed to keep security and rescue agencies ready as needed.

The Relief Commissioner ordered that during strong winds and lightning, people should be prevented from going out into open spaces, near trees, orchards and parks.
