The Railways has launched an inquiry into the incident where pilgrims from Sabarimala performed puja on the Visakhapatnam-Kollam Express by burning camphor in violation of railway rules.
A group of pilgrims on Tuesday ignored railway warnings and performed puja by burning camphor in the train. The Southern Railway has banned such pujas on the train and warned that violating the rule will attract three years in jail and a fine.
Railways have banned the carriage of biscuits, kerosene, gas cylinders, cookers, matches and cigarettes as a precautionary measure to avoid accidents.
Railway officials said they would take the violation seriously.
