Rahul, Tejashwi not respecting people’s mandate: BJP chief Nitin Nabin
Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin on Monday (November 2, 2026) accused the Congress and the rest of the Opposition of spreading lies about the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) by challenging constitutional institutions and disregarding the people’s mandate.

Addressing the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ padyatra in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, Mr Nabin added that the Congress was voted out of power due to corruption and misgovernance, while the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains committed to development, public welfare and national security.
Bihar BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) National President Santosh Suman were also present.
“The Politics of Lies”
“The BJP and the NDA alliance are undertaking padyatras across the country to protect democracy, while on the other hand opposition leaders were seen spreading lies at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi yesterday. People of the country are well aware of the opposition’s politics of lies,” Nabin said.
At an INDIA Bloc mega rally in the capital on Sunday (Nov 1, 2026), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Mr Modi of “stealing votes” and said legal action would be taken against him.
“Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are not respecting the mandate given to the people. Disregarding the people’s mandate is an insult to the people of Bihar. Opposition leaders should learn from their failures,” if Congress had learned from its defeat in 2001, it would not have faced another defeat in 2001, Nabin said.
“Nehru-Gandhi laws have no effect”
Reacting to Mr Gandhi’s statement that the opposition would continue its fight to ensure accountability and justice, Mr Nabin accused the Congress leader of working for a “foreign toolkit”. The BJP chief said Mr Gandhi should take care of his own family while the BJP takes care of the entire nation.
“The country will not be governed by the laws of the Nehru-Gandhi family Congress, but by the Constitution of India,” Mr Nabin said.
He alleged that when the SIR started in Bihar last year, Congress leaders also leveled allegations of vote theft but did not file a single complaint with the ECI.
Reasons for losing in Congress
The BJP president asked which ECI was in office in 2014 which led to Congress losing the general elections that year and added that Congress should understand the real reasons behind its defeat.
“Congress lost elections due to corruption. Whether it was national security or terror attacks, Congress failed on all fronts. It was involved in corruption scandals like 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam and coal scam. It was because of these reasons that the people of the country rejected Congress,” said Mr Nabin.
Double standard
He explained that instead of learning lessons from the 2014 elections, the Congress started blaming EVMs. The opposition must explain why when it wins an election it is seen as a victory for democracy, but when it loses, democracy is suddenly threatened, Mr Nabin said.
“In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, elections were held after the SIR exercise. When the opposition parties won there, they did not see any threat to democracy. Democracy is not under threat, rather the power of the opposition is under threat. In the coming days, people will not even consider the opposition parties worthy to occupy the role of the opposition,” said Nabin.
He added that the credit for BJP’s success in 2019 is not given to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar but to the people of the country. In 2024, people also extended their support to the BJP, he said.
