Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is facing multiple rape charges, on Friday (March 6, 2026) sought an extension to file his reply to a petition filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) seeking cancellation of his bail in one of the cases.
The plea alleging breach of bail conditions will be further heard by the First Class Magistrate Court in Thiruvananthapuram on March 10. This is the second time the lawmaker has asked for more time to submit his response to a request made by the investigation team.
The lawsuit followed a complaint by a survivor who was involved in a second sexual assault case against the lawmaker. The survivor approached the investigation team and alleged that Mr. Mamkootathil tried to influence her despite being out on bail.
According to the complaint, the MLA allegedly tried to contact her over phone in an attempt to influence her. The WhatsApp call was reportedly made a day after the survivor recorded her confidential statement in court.
The investigation team subsequently approached the court saying that such conduct constituted a breach of bail conditions and demanded that his bail be revoked.
