The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Thursday (Oct 16, 2025) said its supreme leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Fatehpur on Friday (Oct 17, 2025) to meet family members of Hariom Valmiki, a Dalit man who was allegedly lynched, reaffirms the party’s commitment to justice.
“Every district in UP faces daily atrocities on common people. All sections – women, youth, farmers, poor, marginalized – are suffering under this government. Police and administration are either absent or helping anti-social elements. Rahul ji and Congress stand with the victims of injustice and their families. Rahul ji visits Hariom’s family to show solidarity,” he said president Ajay Rai, UP Congress.
Hariom was lynched by a mob on October 1 in Raebareli, accused of theft. The alleged video shows the men beating him, with Hariom faintly saying words including “Rahul Gandhi”. The attackers continued saying, “Everyone is with Baba.”
The incident sparked an uproar and the Raebareli police arrested five people, suspended three officers and transferred SHO Sanjay Kumar.
Mr. Rai said the Congress plans to launch a mass movement against the “deteriorating law and order situation” of UP.
“Like Raebareli, similar incidents are happening across UP. The administration even stopped me and the Congress delegation from visiting Hariom’s family. The party is considering launching a mass movement against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state,” added Mr. Rai.
