Rahul Gandhi’s “vote-chori” spokesperson has focused on a Brazilian woman whose photo the Congress leader claimed has appeared several times in Haryana’s electoral roll, with the internet buzzing about her identity and her video reaction expressing shock at the development.
Congress leader and party social media chief Supriya Shrinate shared a video of a woman identified as Larissa Nery allegedly reacting to her image which went viral after Mr Gandhi showed it at his press conference in Delhi on Wednesday (Nov 05, 2025) and claimed it was used 22 times on 10 names of the Raya like Haryana booth. “Seema, Sweety and Saraswati” on the electoral roll.
Media reports quoted the Brazilian as saying in the video that the photo shown at the press conference was an old photo of her.
“Guys, they’re using my old photo. It’s an old photo, okay? I was young in that photo, like 18 or 20 years old…. I don’t know if there’s an election or something about the election. And in India. Oh! They’re portraying me as an Indian to fool people, guys. What madness!” she quoted it according to a rough translation from the Portuguese.
Mr Gandhi said the “centralised plan” involved a Brazilian model whose photo was used 22 times in 10 booths in Rai constituency during last year’s Haryana assembly elections, using names like “Seema, Sweety and Saraswati”.
After showing her photograph, Mr. Gandhi asked the journalists to guess the woman’s nationality.
“So, final guesses, I’ll give a prize if anyone guesses. Anyone? She’s from Brazil. She’s a Brazilian model. That’s a photo bank photo and it’s one of 25,000 such records in Haryana. That’s proof of a centralized operation and I’ll show you – if you just scan (the QR code that was displayed on the screen with the image of this woman) that I’m going to scan now, I’ll do it, Brazil, it’ll open This is her official page,” he said on presses.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged that last year’s Haryana polls were “stolen”. He cited data from the electoral roll to claim that 25 lakh entries were fake and the Election Commission (EC) colluded with the BJP to ensure the party won the polls.
Since the press conference, the Brazilian’s photo has gone viral, and speculation has been intense about her identity, profession and whereabouts. A number of memes and satirical posts are also circulating on social media using her image.
