Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) quoted a media report that claimed that some “anonymous parties” in Gujarat received gifts of 4,300 crore in 2019-2023-24, and asked whether the Election Commission of India (ECI) would explore or ask for age.
There was no immediate response.
Mr. Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, shared x media reports that claimed that in Gujarat 10 anonymously registered political parties received 4,300 GBP in donations from 2019 to 2023-24.
During this period during the three elections – Lok Sabha surveys in 2019 and 2024 and public opinion surveys 2022 – these parties, according to the report, provided only 43 candidates who together secured 54,069 votes.
Their election reports showed spending on only 39.02 ₹ Lakh, while the audit reports recorded in the amount of 3,500 GBP Crore, the report said.
In the post in Hindi on X, Mr. Gandhi said: “There are some anonymous parties in Gujarat whose names no one has heard – but they received gifts worth 4,300 crore!”
These parties attacked the elections or spent money on them on very several occasions, said Mr. Gandhi.
“Where do these thousands come from? Who does the money go? And where did the money go? The former head of Congress said and ran to ECI.
After Mr Gandhi allegedly irregularities of the Gyanesh Kumar election commissioners at a press conference on August 17, he said that the leader of the congress should either submit an honorary statement under the oath, with proof of discrepancies or to apologize to the nation.
