Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday (May 9, 2026) took a dig at the Bihar government over the police lathi charge on protesting aspirants demanding the date of the TRE-4 exam.
In a post on X, Mr. Gandhi said that when the youth take to the streets to demand their rights, they do not get jobs in their hands instead, but rather rain on their backs.
He further said that the youth of India is fed up with the lies of the Bharatiya Janata Party. On Friday, a large number of teacher aspirants gathered at JP roundabout and headed towards the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office and demanded TRE-4 recruitment notification.
Women also injured
During this incident, police lathi-charged the aspirants to stop them, with several aspirants, including women candidates, sustaining injuries in the encounter. The aspirants alleged that the notification was not released on the scheduled date, leaving the future of thousands of candidates in the dark.
“Yesterday in Patna, teacher aspirants protesting peacefully for their right to employment were brutally beaten by the Bihar police – again. BJP’s response to unemployed youth: Lathis. Unemployment is the biggest disease in India today and its most devastating impact is on the youth of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” Mr Gandhi said in the post.
“Millions of youth with degrees and skills in their hands are walking from door to door. But the BJP government doesn’t care about them or you. When the youth come to the streets to demand their rights, they don’t get jobs in their hands – instead they get lathis on their backs. The youth of India is fed up with the lies of the BJP, the said Congress will not stay in the Congress anymore.”
Following the TRE-4 agitation, an FIR was registered against four individuals and several unidentified persons. Three people, including student leader Dilip Kumar, were detained, who claimed that nearly 13 lakh candidates were waiting for the notification.
Later, the police came out with a statement that efforts were being made to control the situation as they tried to convince the protesting aspirants to return and not break the police barricades. Police said that despite repeated requests, the crowd was not ready to listen and the protesters turned aggressive, resulting in the injury of a senior police officer. Later, police used moderate force in a restrained and controlled manner to disperse the crowd, they said.
On Friday, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav posted a message on X criticizing the state government.
In a sarcastic remark about politicians’ children becoming cabinet ministers, Mr. Yadav said, “Make your own children ministers and use lathis on the youth! This is exactly what is happening in Bihar. NDA leaders made their children ministers without even participating in the election process. But millions of youth in Bihar, who fought for years and studied hard for leadership, were let go before the elections.” NDATRE-vacci. Yet even 6 months after the formation of the government, no advertisement was published on TRE-4.”
He further said, “On the contrary, it is flogging those who are demanding vacancies. Why does the NDA government hate Bihar’s youth so much? Why is it oppressing them? They are only asking to fulfill a promise on the basis of which votes were sought from them. These youths are only demanding their rights; they are only asking that government exams be conducted to show their talent; But this opposition does not forget; NDA is betraying its youth.”
