The leader of Congress Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, received a bail in a private case of gossip on Thursday (July 24, 2025) for comments on the ideologist in 2022. Then his legal team moved to bail.
Rahul Gandhi also appealed to the Nashik Sessions court against the process of the trial of another chief judge. The appeal will be heard next month.
“The case of defamation was filed by a private individual in Nashik above Rahula Gandhi’s notes for VD Savarkar during a press conference in Hingoli in 2022. Then the court asked Mr. Gandhi to stay in court.
Criminal gossip
Nashik, who operates a NGO, filed against Rahul Gandhi criminal gossip pursuant to Section 500 (defamation) and 504 (intentional insult with the intention of indisting a breach) of the Indian Criminal Code.
The complaint said: “The manifestation of the accused, along with press statements, is trying to destroy the reputation of the complainant’s idol, Swatantrythraveer Savarkar and reduce his contribution to society, along with his noble work before independence.”
The complaint further claimed that Rahul Gandhi said: Savarkar prayed for release with his hands and later promised to work for the British government.
