Abdul Rahim, a native of Kodampuzha, Kozhikod, who was imprisoned in Saudi Arabia in the last 19 years for murder accusations, was sentenced to 20 years of strict imprisonment by the Criminal Court of Riyadh. However, since he has completed 19 years in prison, he will probably be released in December 2026.
It was in 2006, when Rahim was imprisoned and sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for the murder of a 14 -year -old son of his employer. Although Rahim claimed to be an accident, his words had no weight against his employer. Efforts to release it from prison began quite recently.
The turning point in this case arose when the Malayslia of Diaspora around the world managed to increase the Crore 35 GBP, the blood money that the victim’s family demanded, in one of the largest crowdfunding efforts in the state in May 2024.
Given that the Saudi law deals with crimes as crimes against society, Rahim was also tried under the Public Rights Act. After 13 courts within nine months, the final judgment issued 26 May. Rahim, his legal advisor, the Indian embassy and Siddique Thuvoor, who represented his family, took part in the final meeting.
