Raghavulu condemns Modi’s “US-friendly” foreign policy.

Condemning the imposition of 100% tariffs by the US on countries buying Russian oil and gas, CPI(M) Political Bureau member BV Raghavulu on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-US foreign policy has serious implications for the Indian economy.

“Mr. Modi should be pragmatic in his approach to the looming crisis. He should ensure that India fulfills its demand without much dependence on the US,” demanded Mr. Raghavulu.

Addressing the media here along with party state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao, Mr. Raghavulu said that Mr. Modi was subservient to the US while President Donald Trump remained hostile to India.

Aggressive actions by the US should be unequivocally rejected and pressured to stop the atrocities on Iran. As oil prices crossed $100 a barrel, a heavy burden fell on India, he said, as he feared the rising costs would be passed on to the people.

Mr. Raghavulu said the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls undermined democratic elections and alleged that notices were issued to thousands of people by categorizing them as ineligible on flimsy and arbitrary grounds. He accused the Election Commission of aiding and abetting attempts to rig the election through its policies and actions.

Referring to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remark that governance should be run on the basis of dharma, Mr. Raghavulu said the intention was to poison the minds of the youth with ulterior motives. He added that Mr. Bhagwat’s observation that secularism was useless amounted to insulting the Constitution.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is reassuring various sections in view of the upcoming local body elections and that the CPI (M) will work with like-minded parties, including those from the INDIA bloc, to defeat the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance.
