
16 -year -old Ivan Ivanov became only the second Bulgarian in Wimbledon’s history to win the Grass Court title. On Sunday, July 13, the teenager Ronit Karki defeated the United States to win the boy title. The sixth seed did not fall a set and won the match 6-2, 6-3.
Ivanov, who trains at Rafael Nadal Academy in Majorce, is just one of the two Bulgarian players along with Grigor Dimitrov to win the title Grand Slam Junior Singles. Before Ivanov was the last Bulgarian boy who reached the final Junior Grand Slam Singles Final, Grigor Dimitrov at the US Open 2008.
In 2008, Dimitrov won the title of Wimbledon Boys after defeating Henri Continen 7-5, 6-3.
Against Karki, Ivanov was at his best best because he did not face the only break and ended the match in 57 minutes. On the way to his title Ivanov also revenge his defeat at Germany Max Schonhaus and defeated him 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) in the semifinals. Schonhaus defeated Ivanov in the semi -final of the French Open.
Ivanov is currently a player with the highest ranking under 17 years in the ranking of PIF ATP Live, sitting in the world No. 798. Common 16 -year -old Cruz Hewitt, son of the former world No. Lleyton Hewitt, follows No. 827.
As for Dimitrov, he made a heartbreaking departure from the singles of Wimbledon. Dimitrov left his match after an unfortunate breast injury in the preliminary neighborhoods.
Dimitrov led the match 6-3, 7-5 and was on the verge of history, when after ten years he was about to enter Wimbledon’s neighborhoods, but fate had other plans for him.
