Vaisali was accompanied by her mother and brother R Pragggnanandhaa, who shone with pride. This was Vaisali’s second victory at the Grand Swiss in a row. This year, it has achieved a title with a hard combat draw in the last round of the tournament against the former World Championship Zhongyi from China.
Russian Kateryna Lagno played quite quickly with Ulviyya Fataliyeva of Azerbaijan to end up at the top of the table, along with Vaisali, on eight points from a possible 11.
Vaisali had a slightly better score to win the tournament when she played with much higher zhongyim. Indian GM also won the tournament in 2023 in ISLE OF MAN in the UK. Her victory here means that Indian women will soon catch the reflector as their male counterparts.
Vaisali won six, lost one and drew the remaining four games and her break in the average rating of opponents showed only one point more than a lagno point. Victory means that siblings, Vaisali and Pragggnanandhaa, will again reach candidates, the final border that challenges the world champion.
None of the other Indians in the Great Swiss Swiss could reach the candidates. This is reserved for eight players in total and two. Anish Giri was the winner in the open section when he crushed Hans Moke Niemann of the United States. Anish finished the eight -point tournament of possible 11 and most likely Matthias Bluebaum will finish second and get into candidates.
Players at the Candidate Tournament
Currently, things right now, Anish Giri and Matthias Bluebaum (from this tournament), Hikaru Nakamura in the United States (on rating), R Pragggnanandhaa (at its tournament circuit) and Fabiano Caruana of the United States will reach candidates.
The last three places will be filled from the World Chess Cup, which will be held in Goa next month. The winner of the candidates will question the ruling world champion D Gukesh.
While only one place seems to be assured for the Indians in the men section, there are already three in the category of women who have come to candidates.
Divya Deshmukh and Humpy Koner have already qualified after the first and second at the World Women World Cup. When Vaisali has now joined them, there are already three Indian women in Fray to try to win candidates that will give them a chance for a female chess title.
“There are eight seats and there are more than eight great players. Regardless of the system you choose, it will be difficult because you have to push eight out of 20 players,” said Anish Giri, a good winner who was consistent during a long tournament.
