
Ravichandran Ashwin could have become the first major Indian cricket to appear in the Big Bash League (BBL), with discussions for the upcoming season of the Australian premiere T20.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the CEO of Cricket Australia (CA) Todd Greenberg stretched on Ashwin shortly after the veteran off-spinner announced his retirement to IPL last week. Ashwin had previously indicated an exploration of opportunities in the global leagues T20 and BBL could call his first stop as a freelance cricket.
Greenberg confirmed this approach and admitted that he was enthusiastic about the provision of Ashwin’s player.
“To get someone with Ashwin’s mandate that comes here for BBL will be great at so many levels. It’s a cricket of a champion that will bring a lot to Big Bash and our cricket summer,” Greenberg Cricbuzz said.
While finer details have to be completed, CA examines how Ashwin could be integrated into the tournament, given that most clubs have already spent their salary ceiling in the proposal. One potential solution should be a custom organization similar to the match agreement for David Warner in the past.
Speculation suggests that Ashwin could be tied to Melbourne, although nothing was confirmed. His presence would be the main support for BBL, which has long tried to attract overseas stars of the awning. The Indian cricket Ashwin’s characters, with several IPL titles and the World Cup victory to his name, would significantly expand the global range of the league, especially throughout South Asia.

In IPL, Ashwin was one of the brightest minds of the league, debuted for Chennai Super Kings in 2009. His final appearance also came in the yellow jersey in IPL 2025 after re -joining CSK for 9.75 Crore after a ten -year gap.
During his career IPL, Ashwin performed in 221 matches, with 187 goals on average 30.22, with the best 4/34 numbers. With a bat scored 833 runs, including the highest score of 50, on average 13.02.
Ashwin played an integral role in the campaigns of the winning CSK titles in 2010 and 2011, and during his career it also proved to be Rising Pune Supergiant, Panjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
