R Ashwin’s fighting with the ball continued as he admitted 30 runs in three overs. The off-spinner settled and distributed 12 runs during the PowerPlay, again emphasized its inability to contain the dough in the first six breaks. In the other end was Ashwin disassembled Sunil Narine, who triggered two six en Route to the wrestling-playing 44 of only 18 vans.
Although Ashwin has been signed at RS 9.75 crore, he has to intensify as a higher figure in the CSK bowling unit. So far, in the IPL 2025, he took only six goals in five matches, admitting 9.90 runs in the economy after the end. His diameter bowling this season is around 40 runs on the goal – far from what CSK would hope for.
CSK defeat was shaped in two powerplays. While they were able to handle only 31 runs in their own first six overs, their pitchors admitted stunning 71 runs on the KKR during the same phase – the disparity that emphasized the bay in the intention and execution.
“Chennai has to ask this question – and also R Ashwin: The way they bowed to Sunil Narine … Look, they couldn’t win the match. But they could gain some confidence with the ball,” Chopra said.
“They could try to make their plans better. Not only lost the match but also lost bowling confidence. This is not good.
“Ashwin distributed 30 runs in three overs. I think Ashwin did not bow well during the season. Just adding salt to wounds,” he added.
Also, Ashwin, who announced his departure from the international cricket in the middle of the Border-Gavascar trophy in Australia, also did not contribute to the bat. On Friday he entered No. 6 and managed to escape from seven vans.
CSK attached great hopes for their spin Trio Ashwina, Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmed – he expected it to be a deadly force in IPL 2025.
Afghan wrist has already raised 12 goals this season, while Ashwin and Jadeja managed only seven in six matches – a worrying sign for the team built around the dominance spin.
