Quote of the day
“Give me blood and I will give you freedom,” by Subhas Chandra Bose, remains one of the iconic lines that inspired India’s struggle for independence.
The slogan was a powerful call to action as Bose exhorted Indians to rise above fear for their homeland. His words inspired the countrymen to sacrifice everything to free the nation from British rule.
What does this mean
Bose served as the leader of the Indian National Army. He believed that freedom could not be negotiated. Instead, courage, unity and, if necessary, bloodshed had to be won.
Simply put, Subhas Chandra Bose used “blood” as a metaphor for sacrifice in his address to the Indian National Army. He asked them to sacrifice their lives in the struggle in Burma to free India from British rule.
What Netaji said
According to the Indian National Congress website, Subhas Chandra Bose told a gathering of Indians in Burma on July 4, 1944: “My friends, a year ago, when I made certain demands on you, I told you that if you give me ‘total mobilization’, I will give you a ‘second front.’
“Give your loins for the task that now lies before you. I have asked you for men, money, and material. I have received them in generous measure. Now I ask more of you.”
“Men, money and materials have the impetus to inspire us to brave deeds and heroic deeds. It will be a fatal mistake for you to want to live and see India free only because victory is now within reach. No one here should have the desire to live to enjoy freedom. There is a long struggle ahead. Today we should have only one desire – the desire to die so that India can face death – freedom. paved with the blood of martyrs.
“Friends! My comrades in the war for liberation! I ask you for one thing above all today. I ask you for blood. Only blood can avenge the blood spilled by the enemy. Only blood can pay the price of freedom. Give me blood and I promise you freedom!”
CM Yogi’s quote is stupid
Recently, Bose’s favorite quote went viral after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath used it during an election rally in West Bengal.
However, Yogi attributed the iconic slogan “Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azaadi dunga” to Swami Vivekananda, which left many on the Internet disgruntled.
Before the assembly vote on April 23 and 29, Yogi reportedly said, “Swami Vivekananda said that ‘tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azaadi dunga’ (Give me blood and I will give you freedom).
