The state government hopes to get environmental clearance for the Gauravelli irrigation project soon, clearing all other legal hurdles to complete work on it, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
In a meeting with officials held here on Monday, he said the process of land acquisition for the project would be completed within the time limit. The evaluation meeting was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and senior officials of the Irrigation Department.
The Irrigation Minister said the Gouravelli project was one of the reservoirs built under the Indiramma Flood flow Canal (IFFC) project and was originally designed with a storage capacity of 1.41 tmc ft in Siddipet district with the potential to irrigate 1.06 lakh acres of ayacut. Subsequently, the tank capacity was increased to 8.23 tmc ft.
To ensure fair compensation and prompt payment to the farmers who parted with the land, he said the government is firm in completing the task of land acquisition by releasing the required funds well before June 2, he noted.
The Minister directed the District Collectors of Karimnagar, Jangaon and Siddipet to pay attention to the land acquisition issues. He asked the Advocate General to be ready with the required strategies as the Supreme Court case related to the project will be heard in two days.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed hope that the state would be able to overcome all legal hurdles for the Gouravelli project. Mr. Prabhakar asked officials to complete land acquisition for all critical ongoing project works, including Gouravelli and Devadula, at any cost by June 2, the deadline set by Chief Minister A.
