After days of chaos caused by an intense bout of thunderstorms, Queensland is finally set for calmer skies – just in time for the fourth T20I between India and Australia at Carrara Oval on Thursday 6 November. What briefly looked like another weather-hit fixture in this rain-spoiled series now promises to unfold under clear skies and bright lights on the Gold Coast.
Last weekend Queensland experienced one of the wildest weather periods of the year. A severe thunderstorm swept through the state’s southeast, unleashing giant hail nearly 9cm wide, damaging winds and a staggering half a million lightning strikes in a single day. The storm caused widespread power outages, bringing down trees and power lines and leaving several communities around Toowoomba, Ipswich and Logan without power for more than 24 hours. The State Emergency Service received almost 300 requests for help – mostly for damaged roofs, broken windows and flooding due to water ingress.
But as the region recovers from this extreme spell, the focus is now shifting to cricket. With the five-match series level at 1-1, both India and Australia head to Carrara Oval eager to gain the upper hand in what could be a decisive match. The first T20I in Canberra was washed out but Australia bounced back strongly in Melbourne before India responded in Hobart and chased down 187 with ease. So the fourth match comes with high stakes – the winner will move within striking distance of clinching the series.
AUS vs IND, 4th T20I: Weather Forecast
Fortunately for fans and players alike, the turbulent weather that plagued Queensland last weekend will not be a concern on match day. According to weather.com, the Gold Coast is expected to be sunny with temperatures ranging from 20 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius. There is just a 4 percent chance of rain during the day and 6 percent in the evening, while humidity will hover around 58 percent, perfect for a game of cricket under the lights.
The Gold Coast’s coastal breeze could play a role in the bowling dynamic, but after weeks of weather fluctuations across Australia, Thursday’s match finally looks set to be a full-on, uninterrupted contest.
Team update and match preview
India released left arm Kuldeep Yadav to join the India A team for their unofficial Test series against South Africa, while Washington Sundar’s all-round performance in Hobart saw him retain his place. for Australia, Sean Abbott and Travis Head returned to domestic duties, meaning Matthew Short is likely to start alongside captain Mitchell Marsh. Glenn Maxwell, who rejoined the team ahead of the third T20I, is also expected to return to the squad.
Renowned for its variable pace and bounce, the Carrara Oval could once again test the adaptability of both teams. India will look at Suryakumar Yadav and could also bring in Rinka Singh for the middle-order firepower, while Australia are banking on the explosive Marsh-Maxwell combination to provide an edge.
