Queen Camilla could not attend the funeral of the Duchess of Kent on Tuesday because King Charles and other family members expanded their final farewell to the late British royal.
Pope Leo XIV offered a personal honor to the Duchess of Kent, who in 1994 transformed into Catholicism and acknowledged her “heritage of Christian goodness” in a report mediated during the funeral ceremony.
It was the first Catholic Mass Requiem to take place for a royal family member in modern British history.
Just a few hours before the ceremony and before the arrival of US President Donald Trump in the UK for a state visit, Buckingham Palace announced that the queen would not attend the service, according to AFP report.
“With great regret, her Majesty withdrew from participation in the afternoon Mass for the Duchess of Kent, when she recovers from acute sinusitis,” said Buckingham Palace spokesman.
Queen Camilla (78) is expected to join King Charles III on Wednesday and Thursday.
Prince William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, also visited the Westminster Cathedral to give up respect.
The kings, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his ex -wife Sarah, the Duchess of York, were also present.
