Qiana Joseph Sizzles as West Indies Thrash Bangladesh in Second T20I
The West Indies cricket team continued their dominant run in the T20I series against Bangladesh, defeating their opponents by a whopping 55 runs in the second encounter on Thursday. A brilliant all-round performance from Qiana Joseph and an equally impressive bowling display from the West Indies bowlers helped the team secure their second successive victory in the series.
Opting to bat first, the West Indies posted a competitive total of 167 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, with Qiana Joseph leading the charge. The 27-year-old all-rounder blasted 43 runs off just 28 balls, including 4 fours and a six, to power the West Indies innings. Her innings was the highest score of the game, and it laid the foundation for the team’s victory.
Joseph’s aggressive knock was complemented by the pair of Kycia Cooper and Stafanie Taylor, who chipped in with 23 and 20 runs, respectively. The Bangladesh bowlers fought hard but were eventually unable to contain the West Indies batswomen, who accelerated their scoring in the back end of the innings.
In response, Bangladesh were never in the hunt, restricted to 112 runs long. Shenara Jakir, the Bangladeshi opener, scored 24 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to impress. West Indies fast bowlers Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman extracted excellent swing and seam movement, while off-spinner Anisa Mohammed spun it to perfection, snaring three wickets.
Qiana Joseph, who played a match-winning innings, was also impressive with the ball, claiming two wickets in her 2 overs for 14 runs. Her haul included the wickets of Jakir and Tamanna ayesha, two key Bangladeshi batswomen.
"Qiana’s performance was outstanding today," West Indies captain Hayley Matthews said in a post-match interview. "Her batting and bowling were instrumental in our victory. She’s a world-class player, and we’re fortunate to have her in our team."
The series now stands at 2-0 in favor of the West Indies, with two matches still to be played. While Bangladesh will look to regroup and challenge the West Indies, the Caribbean side will be confident of carrying their momentum forward, riding on the strength of Qiana Joseph’s incredible all-round display.
