Flight Qatar Airways QR816 from Doha to Hong Kong was diverted to Ahmedabad on Tuesday, according to the report nor.
The aircraft carried out a preventive emergency landing due to sudden loss of pressure in the cab according to India.
According to the official Qatar Airways website, the Flight QR816 started from Hamad’s International Airport around 9 am and was “redirected” to Sardar Vallabhai Patel (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad around 2.40 hours.
The plane, Boeing 777, landed safely around 14:40, according to a statement published by airlines.
All passengers are safe. Technical inspections are currently being carried out to assess the condition of the aircraft.
The crew reportedly announced a “full emergency” after all the pressure equipment on board began. Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) received an emergency message at 2:12, after which it provided an aircraft for landing.
Ahmedabad airport emergency protocol was activated and fire offers and ambulances were placed along the track where the plane landed. Fire offers were also brought from a fire station nearby as a preventive measure.
“The passengers were deprived and refreshments are served. The complete emergency situation was officially withdrawn at 14:38 after the technical teams made preliminary checks,” said the source.
The decision to restore the flight will be taken after a thorough inspection of the aircraft at the airport, said the PTI official.
The airline website said the flight would go to Hong Kong from Terminal 2 airport at 17:30.
What is the pressure in the cabin? Why is this essential?
When the aircraft are at high altitude, air pressure outside is too low to keep people normal breathing because it is very little air and then less oxygen. The aircraft that fly at high altitudes keep pumping air into the cab through the pressure system, so that the pressure is equivalent to 6,000 feet to 8,000 feet in the air.
If this system fails, the air pressure inside the cabin is drastically dropping, reducing oxygen available for passengers and crew members.
June 2025 Spring Japan Airlines incident
On June 30, Spring Japan Airlines rushed around 26,000 feet after a sudden drop in pressure in the cabin experienced. Oxygen masks were deployed and the aircraft had to carry out an emergency landing at the Kansai International Airport. This aircraft manufacturer was also Boeing (model 737-800).
