The forest department and police have launched an investigation after pythons were allegedly found in a private apartment in Kamakshipalya on Friday.
The incident came to light when the residents of the apartment noticed suspicious activities and frequent movement of unknown persons in the apartment in recent days. Due to the suspicion of illegal activity, they alerted the officials of the forest office.
Based on this information, officials of the forest department conducted an inspection of the apartment on Friday night. During the search, they found pythons kept in the apartment without the required permit.
The officials informed the Kamakshipalya police, who visited the spot and conducted a joint inspection. Reptiles were reportedly found inside cotton/cardboard boxes.
As part of the preliminary investigation, the police questioned several people present in the flat, including a resident of Andhra Pradesh.
An NCR (Non-Cognizable Report) has been registered at the Kamakshipalya police station, while the forest department has launched a separate investigation into the illegal possession of the reptiles.
Officials are investigating how the pythons were obtained, whether the accused was connected to an illegal wildlife trade network and for what purpose the reptiles were kept in the apartment.
