PV Sindhu in first final in 2 years: When and where to watch Japan Open

PV Sindhu will look to end her title drought when she takes on Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles final at the Japan Open on Sunday, July 19. The summit clash marks Sindhu’s first BWF World Tour final in two years and her first appearance in a Japan Open final.

Sindhu booked her place in the title fight after defeating China’s Chen Yufei in the semi-finals on Saturday. The Indian shuttler won the opener 21-19 and led 15-10 in the second when Yufei was forced to retire with a hamstring injury.

The two-time Olympic medalist produced one of her best performances in recent memory to end a five-match losing streak against Yufei. Earlier in the tournament, Sindhu also stunned world No.5 Han Yue to continue her impressive run.

“I am very happy to have reached the final,” Sindhu said after the match.

“For me, every game from the first game was very important, especially today. It was important to be focused from the beginning, because when you play with the best players, it’s important that every point counts, so winning the first game really mattered a lot.”

Sindhu last reached the final at the 2024 Syed Modi International where she lifted the title. She will now take on home favorite and former world champion Akane Yamaguchi in a bid to capture her first BWF World Tour title since then.

Japan Open PV Sindhu Final: Match Timing

The Japan Open finals will begin on Sunday, July 19 at 7:30 am IST.

Sindhu’s women’s singles final is scheduled as the second match of the day after the mixed doubles final. If proceedings remain as planned, the Indian is expected to take the court between 8:10 am and 8:30 am IST.
