Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and current deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, claimed on Tuesday that the ongoing peace talks with Ukraine were designed to ensure a quick and complete Russian victory rather than seeking compromise.
Medvedev clarified the Russian intention for peaceful conversations in Istanbul and wrote on the telegram: “Istanbul conversations are not in order to affect the compromise of someone else, but to ensure our rapid victory and complete destruction of the neonazist regime”.
Medvede is warning of retaliation
When he talked about the telegram, Medvedev dealt with those who were concerned about Russian military action and said:
“For all those who are worried and are waiting for retribution. It’s right to worry – that’s what normal people do. The retribution is inevitable.”
He added that the Russian forces would continue to progress unchanged: “Our army is pushing forward and will continue to proceed. Everything that needs to be thrown into the air will be thrown into the air, and those who have to be removed will be.”
Russian demands and stopped negotiations
Medvedev referred to the Russian memorandum presented by Ukraine during interviews in Istanbul on Monday. Requirements included Ukraine passing more territories, accepting neutrality, limiting its military size and organizing new elections.
Interviews, which lasted only an hour, resulted in an agreement on the exchange of prisoners and the exchange of 12,000 bodies, but could not secure a ceasefire. Moscow offered a limited temporary ceasefire for selected front areas, while Kyiv insisted on a full and unconditional ceasefire.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that conflict resolution was difficult: “The problem of settlement is extremely complex and includes a large number of nuances. It would be wrong to expect immediate solutions and breakthroughs.”
Escalation on the ground and renewed attacks
Despite the interviews, violence continues. He condemned the Russian missile attack on the city of sums, which killed four civilians and lies near the Russian border. He called evidence of the attack on Moscow Ignoring Peace: “The attack says that everything one needs to know about the so -called” desire “of Russia to end this war.”
Russian forces recently captured the village of Andriirka in the area of the sum when trying to establish a bumper zone.
