The South, West and North Municipal Corporations unveiled a package of road infrastructure projects in their 2026-27 budgets on Saturday (March 28), focusing on road widening, intersection improvements and large-scale upgrades aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility.
In South Corporation, an allocation of ₹ 50.45 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition related to road widening, grade dividers and junction development. Among the major projects is Bannerghatta Road, from Dairy Circle to NICE Road, to be developed during the financial year.
Key expansion works include Subramanyapura Road stretch from Banashankari Temple to Outer Ring Road (₹20 crore) and Begur Main Road to Begur Koppa Road corridor (₹40 crore). In addition, ₹ 50 crore has been specifically allocated for road widening identified under the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).
The South Corporation has also proposed ₹433 crore for extensive upgradation of arterial, sub-arterial and urban roads under various schemes focusing on scientific asphalting, integrated drainage and improvement of junctions. Plans for slope dividers at Jayanagar Raghavendra Swamy Temple Junction and Vega City Junction were also outlined in the budget.
West Corporation: Extensive road widening projects
West Corporation has outlined extensive road widening projects, with ₹20 crore earmarked for land acquisition and ₹8 crore for widening of key roads. Several corridors, including Ittamadu Road, Kurubarahalli Main Road, Mahalaxmipur Access Road and Thyagarajanagar Main Road, are to be widened significantly, doubling the road width in some cases. A separate ₹2 crore has been earmarked for widening at the congested Goraguntepalya junction on Tumkur Road.
The West Corporation has also earmarked ₹667.74 crore for the development of arterial and sub-arterial roads and ₹317.25 crore for the development of 174.49 km of district roads.
North Corporation: Road widening to 30.5 km
Meanwhile, North Corporation has planned a 30.5 km road widening project covering 12 roads under RMP-2015. Work of 22.5 km across eight roads including Tannery Road, Bagalur Main Road and Jakkur Double Road is ready for completion, while a new extension of 7.95 km across four roads like Hennur–Bagalur Road and Dasarahalli Main Road has been proposed with an allocation of ₹25 crore, the North Corporation budget said.
The North Corporation has also committed significant investment in road development, including over ₹670 million for precinct, trunk and main roads, along with dedicated precinct-level allocations for pothole filling, traffic works and maintenance.
