Push for rubber plantation on 700 acres in dist. Polavaram.
Tribal farmers have expressed their interest to grow rubber plantations in an area of more than 700 acres in Maredumilli, Rampachodavaram and Y. Ramavaram mandals of Polavaram district.
This comes at a time when the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Rampachodavaram has committed to expand the area under rubber plantation. The crop has provided sustainable livelihood to tribal farmers for the past decade.
“We have set a target to promote rubber plantations in 3,000 acres, including 1,000 acres during the financial year 2026-27. Tribal farmers are showing interest in the rubber crop,” Polavaram District Joint Collector and ITDA Project Director Rampachodavaram S. Prasanth Kumar said in a release.
Mr. Kumar also said that the farmers would be connected with the Rubber Board for marketing and rubber activities. Officials of agriculture, district water authority, horticulture and revenue department have been asked to submit a report on the potential of expansion of rubber plantation in Polavaram district by the end of May.
