Days after the dismal performance of the Congress in the recently concluded Tarn Taran by-election, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel on Friday (Nov 21, 2025) said the party’s performance is being reviewed and necessary corrective measures will be taken.
Mr. Baghel was responding to a question about the result of the Tarn Taran by-election at a press conference in Chandigarh. “The party’s performance has been reviewed and all necessary remedial action will be taken,” he said, adding that “the ruling party usually wins by-elections. Despite this, the Congress won the Barnala by-election.”
Congress Party candidate Karanbir Singh Burj finished fourth, trailing independent Mandeep Singh who polled nearly 5,000 more votes than the Congress. The Congress candidate even failed to post his bond.
On the Bihar results, Mr Baghel said: “The Election Commission of India has given unreserved support to the BJP.”
He added that the Congress would hold a rally in Delhi on December 14 to protest against what he called the “voice-chori” in the country. “This will be preceded by the submission of five million signed anti-vote-chori forms from across the country to the President of India on the same day,” he said.
“Punjab has seen a massive response against BJP’s blatant vote-stealing attempts. The party has collected five million signatures from across the country and about 27 million signatures have been collected from Punjab,” he claimed.
Mr. Baghel also organized a meeting of the newly appointed district convention committee chairmen. He said, among other things, that the new DCC presidents have been asked to mobilize support for the December 14 rally held in Delhi against vote stealing.
