The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab on Thursday (January 22, 2026) launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) scheme, which provides free hospital treatment up to ₹ 10 lakh to every family in the state.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann handed over the cards related to the scheme to some eligible beneficiaries.
“People can go to any hospital, government or private. The government has already started fixing everything and soon the government hospitals will become even better than the private ones. But for now patients can go anywhere,” Mr Kejriwal said in Mohali, explaining the insurance scheme.
Mr Mann said the scheme was launched for the welfare of every section of the society. “Health cards will be issued to all 65 thousand families covering nearly three million people of Punjab,” he said, adding that for the first time no income limit has been set for any health system in the state.
The chief minister said apart from hospital costs, diagnostic services were also included. “Any citizen can get free treatment in any government or private hospital in Punjab or Chandigarh,” he said, adding that he would pay the hospitals the cost of treatment within 15 days of the treatment. He noted that the state government has already paid an advance for the insurance premium to the insurance company to ensure smooth implementation.
