On Saturday, the Pune police arrested a large interstate illegal production and trafficking of arms. The missile was operated from a village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh.
Police arrested 36 people and seized a huge cache of weapons during the raid, officials said.
Police officials in Pune said on Saturday that raids had been launched in Umarti village in Madhya Pradesh, located about 500 km from Pune city in Maharashtra. The raids were carried out after several pistols were seized in Pune in the last three weeks, with supply links found in MP.
During the operation, carried out in collaboration with the MP police, 50 furnaces where weapons were illegally manufactured were destroyed, they said.
“Pune police conducted a combing operation in Madhya Pradesh. While investigating the cases registered at Vimantal and Kalepadal city police stations, we received several leads about pistol manufacturing units located in MP. Pune and Madhya Pradesh police jointly conducted this operation,” Pune Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said at a press conference.
“Raids were carried out in several places and weapons units were demolished. A total of 36 people were arrested,” he said.
A total of 21 pistols have been seized in Pune in the last three weeks. During the interrogation of the accused in the city, it came to light that the weapons brought to Pune were from Madhya Pradesh. After that, this operation was planned and executed, the official added.
“This is a supply chain of arms. A search is on for those who sent these arms to Pune. There are many more individuals involved in this racket and the investigation is on,” the Joint CP said. A team of 105 police officers from Pune led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Somay Munde took part in the operation.
