Pune police have arrested suspected gang member Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with a shooting at the office of a city businessman last month, an official said on Saturday (July 4, 2026).

The crime branch arrested the suspect Pawan Ram from Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan on Friday (July 3, 2026), he said.

Two unidentified persons opened fire at the office of Amol Rajendra Chamadai, a steel merchant, in Pune’s Mantarwadi area on the night of June 18, triggering panic in the place.

Shortly after the shooting, people allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post.

The video of the shooting also went viral on social networks.

“We have launched several teams to target the accused. Police have arrested one suspect in the case from Rajasthan. We are investigating the matter further,” said a senior crime branch official.

In particular, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gauhar Hasan personally camped in Rajasthan to oversee the apprehension of the suspect.

According to the police, Amol Rajendra Chamadai, who runs a steel products business, claimed that a person who identified himself as ‘Arzu Bishnoi’ called him and allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from him and his business partners.
